Built by Professor Juzo Kabuto as a weapon to thwart Dr. Hell's evil plan for World Domination. Dr. Hell finds out about the Mazinger and sends his minions to destroy it. In the attack, Dr. Kabuto is mortally wounded but the Mazinger escapes destruction. Professor Kabuto's grandson, Kouji arrives to find his dying grandfather, the remains of his house and the Mazinger in an underground basement. Kouji, with the Mazinger Z and the help of Sayaka and Dr. Yumi, battles Dr. Hell at every turn of his evil plan.
